CRYBABY

This project explores the relationship between memory, emotion, and place through childhood experiences of crying. As a child, I was known for my sensitivity, and tears were a frequent response to emotional situations. Returning to these places no longer produces the same reaction; instead of crying, I observe. Photography becomes a way to replace emotional response with a distant gaze.

The images focus on leisure and cultural spaces that attempt to create feelings of escapism through decorative and “exotic” aesthetics. By photographing their materials, surfaces, and corners, the work reveals the tension between the promise of emotional experience and the artificiality of these environments.
